Services for Children 3-5

A note of explanation: This website focuses on children ages 0 to 5. This section refers to services available within that age range -- this does not mean that services end at age 5. The services below can be available beyond age 5.

Services Provided by Golden Gate Regional Center

Golden Gate Regional Center (GGRC) is the agency responsible for coordinating and providing services mandated by the Lanterman Act to children (and adults) with developmental disabilities in San Francisco. (See GGRC eligiblity for more information about eligiblity.) Services include:

  • the services available to children 0-3;
  • in-home respite care;
  • out-of-home respite care;
  • residential care;
  • parent training and behavior modification;
  • adult day programs;
  • transportation;
  • adaptive equipment;
  • support living services.

Services Provided by the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD)

San Francisco Unified School District, as directed by IDEA Part B, provides services to eligible children 3-21. (See SFUSD eligibility for more information about eligibility.) They are mandated to provide special education and related services. Related services may include:

  • audiology;
  • assistive technology;
  • counseling;
  • medical services (relating to identifying needs);
  • occupational therapy;
  • parent counseling and training;
  • physical therapy;
  • recreation;
  • school health services;
  • speech pathology;
  • transportation.
