This workshop is designed for providers using the ASQ screening tool who are interested in finding out about the referral process for young children with developmental concerns. Representatives of the Golden Gate Regional Center and San Francisco Unified School District will share information on making referrals to their agencies. Providers will be able to ask questions and get detailed information about referral steps.

Participants who attend this workshop will:

have an increased understanding about screening and the ASQ tool.
have an increased understanding of the referral process for young children.
know when and how to make an appropriate Early Start or Special Education referral.
have an opportunity for small group discussions with representatives of the Early Start Program (GGRC) and early childhood assessment staff from SFUSD.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion of 4 hours of training toward the PFA Inclusion Training requirement

什麼是ASQ-3tm ？
年齡和進程問卷［Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) ］是一份由家長填寫答有關一個月大至五歲半兒童發展的檢查問卷。檢查是計劃發現幼兒發展問題和適時開始轉介／服務的有效和高效方法。ASQ給家長提供有關他們子女強項和需要的有用資料，同時給他們機會談談有關他們子女的任何關注或問題。

為什麼使用ASQ-3tm？
研究告訴我們童年護理和教育對兒童如何發展有長期的影響。在兒童三歲期內，重要的是集中於兒童的發展需要，和利用兒童的天賦能力學習。從幫助家庭識別他們孩子之強項和可能延遲，你可以擔任一個重要的角色，確保兒童有最好的學習和成長之機會。因為家長是ASQ檢查過程的合作者，這也是他們和孩子親誼和學習更多有關兒童發展的好方法。

ASQ-3tm 與DRDP 或其他評估有什麼不同？
家長參與是ASQ的重心。 ASQ-3依賴家長對子女的觀察，和填答一份有關他們子女能力的簡單問卷。由家長填答發展問卷不只是省錢的方法，同時亦因包括家長對子女的深入認識，增加檢查的準確性。當服務者和家長一起參詳ASQ檢查結果時，正是服務者和家長分享他們觀察所得和與家長建立關係的起點。

什麼人應參加訓練？
照顧一個月至五歲大的家庭託兒中心和服務者﹐ 家庭資源中心職員﹐普及學前計劃服務者﹐和想知道更多有關發展檢查重要性和如何執行ASQ-3的家庭托兒者。

你將認識發展檢查之重要性和價值，如何提供ASQ-3tm和評分，識別在檢查過程中參與家庭之策略，和如何在你提供的服務中包括ASQ-3tm在內。

ASQ-3 Training for Providers caring for Young Children

HRIIC is happy to announce its funding from First 5 San Francisco to strengthen screening and identification efforts throughout San Francisco. By screening young children early, children and their families are more likely to receive needed resources. Screening is an effective, efficient way for programs to catch developmental concerns and start referrals/services when it does the most good. The ASQ also gives parents useful information about their child’s strengths and needs as well as an opportunity to talk about any concerns or questions they may have about their child’s development.

By helping families identify their children’s strengths and potential delays, child care providers, Preschool for All Sites, Family Resource Centers and others caring for young children play an important role in making sure that they have the very best opportunities to learn and grow. Because parents are partners in the ASQ screening process, it is also a great way to bond with their children and to learn more about child development.

HRIIC offers periodic training and follow up assistance on how to use the ASQ-3 screening tool, free of charge to San Francisco child care and early education professionals. Family Resource Center staff are encouraged to participate as well. Currently scheduled training dates are listed below:

What is ASQ-3^tm?

Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) is a parent-completed questionnaire that screens children’s development ages 1 month to 5 ½ years old. Screening young children is an effective, efficient way for programs to catch developmental concerns and start referrals/services when it does the most good. ASQ’s give parents useful information about their child’s strengths and needs and also gives them an opportunity to talk about any concerns or questions they may have about their child’s development.

Why Use the ASQ-3^tm?

Research tells us that early care and education have a long-lasting impact on how children develop. During a child’s first three years, it is important to focus on a child’s developmental needs and take advantage of a child’s natural ability to learn. By helping families identify their children’s strengths and potential delays, you play an important role in making sure a child has the very best opportunities to learn and grow. Because parents are partners in the ASQ screening process, it is a great way to bond with their children and to learn more about child development.

How is the ASQ-3^tm different from the DRDP or other assessments?

Parent participation is at the heart of the ASQ. ASQ-3 relies on parents to observe their child and to complete the simple questionnaires about their child’s abilities. Having parents complete the developmental questionnaires is not only cost effective, but also enhances the accuracy of screening by tapping into parents’ in-depth knowledge about their children. When providers review the ASQ screening results with parents, it serves as a great starting point for providers to share their observations and build partnerships with parents.

Who should attend the training?

Family Child Care Providers and Centers, Family Resource Center staff, and Preschool For All sites, who care for young children from 1 month to 5 years old and want to know more about the importance of developmental screening and how to administer the ASQ-3.

What will I learn?

You will learn about the importance and value of developmental screening, how to give and score the ASQ-3^tm , to identify strategies to involve families in the screening, and how to include the ASQ-3^tm as part of the services you provide.

Support for Families is located on the 7th floor of 1663 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94103, on the corner of Plum St, between South Van Ness and Duboce.

Public Transport: We are located near the 16th Street Mission and Civic Centre Bart Stations, as well as the Van Ness Muni Metro station. We are also accessible via Muni buses 14, 47, 49 and 71.

Parking: Most of the street parking near the office is metered and timed. There is free all day parking available on Plum Street (adjacent to building), and around the Best Buy store (along 13^th, 14^th,15^th, Folsom, Harrison) approximately a 10 minute walk to the office.
