Parent/Professional Workshops (PPW's)
All workshops are from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Support for Families,
2601 Mission Street (cross street is 22nd), Suite 300. (After hours access
to the building is only available through the back entrance on 22nd Street.
Free parking is available in the lot behind the building beginning at
5:45 p.m.)
A light supper will be provided. Child care and interpreter
services are available but must be reserved at least one week in advance.

Transition From Early Intervention
September 18, 2008 (Tues) 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Join us for a discussion on transition to preschool, and
the various options that are available when children turn three. Representatives
from GGRC, San Francisco Unified School District, Support for Families,
the Child Care Inclusion Challenge Project and others will be on hand
to share information. Presenters: David Wax, Pam Macy, Janice Polizzi, Nina Boyle, Minal Doshi
Understanding Early Intervention
October 23, 2008 (Tues) 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Come to a workshop to meet representatives from agencies
providing services to families of very young children with special needs.
We will explain how early intervention works, the laws that govern the
way services and supports are provided, and how the different agencies
work together to provide services to children and their families. Presenters: Minal Doshi, Judy Bachman, Nina Boyle

Parent Education Workshop: Strategies for Language, Speech and Literacy Development, Presenter: Donna Uzoigwe, MS, CCC-SLP, Speech Therapist
Session 1:
Wednesday, June 18 - 6:30 – 8:00 pm
Introductions: What is language, speech, and literacy development, and what type of therapy does my child need? How can I start to work with my child on their speech, language and literacy goals? What If we speak more than one language at home?
Session 2:
Wednesday, July 16 - 6:30 – 8:00 pm
Language and Play: How can we facilitate language development while playing with your child with their favorite toys? What other activities help language development? What activities will help my specific child’s speech and language skills?
Session 3:
Wednesday, August 20 - 6:30 – 8:00 pm
LArticulation: How does your child says words? What should I do as a parent to help them with their speech? Activities and strategies to help parents with their child’s specific sound errors.
Session 4:
Wednesday, September 17 - 6:30 – 8:00 pm
Literacy and Phonemic Awareness: How can I work on my child’s specific language and speech goals through literacy and phonemic
awareness activities? Why is this important? What if my child won’t sit still for long enough to read a book, how do I teach this?
All workshops are held at Support for Families 2601 Mission St., Suite 300 Child care and Interpreter services are available but

DIRECTIONS:
Support for Families is located at the corner of 22nd and Mission Streets, Suite 300 in San Francisco on the third floor of the US Bank Building. Enter the building from the 22nd Street rear entrance off the parking lot. Access to both the building and the
parking lot will be between 6:15 and 6:30 pm. If you arrive after 6:30 pm, you will need to call 415/920-5040 for building access. Otherwise, limited street parking is available.
