Eligibility for Services

Depending on the law and their mandate, public agencies have varying eligibilty requirements. In San Francisco, the following is one of the agencies that provide services for eligible children.

San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD)

San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) provides services to children 3-21 who are eligible under IDEA Part B. SFUSD also provides services to children 0-3 who have sole low incidence disabilities.

Eligibility for Ages 0-3

Children 0-3 with sole low incidence disabilities are eligible for services from SFUSD. Sole low incidence disabilities includes a

  • visual,
  • hearing,or
  • orthopedic impairment,
  • or any combination thereof.

Eligibility for Ages 3-5

Children over the age of 3 (and until their 22nd birthday) who are eligible for services under IDEA Part B have been identified as having one of the following disabilities:

  • autism;
  • deaf-blindness;
  • hearing impairment;
  • mental retardation;
  • multiple disabilities;
  • orthopedic impairment;
  • other health impairment;
  • emotional disturbance;
  • specific learning disabilities;
  • speech and language impairment;
  • traumatic brain injury;
  • established medical disability;
  • needs specifically designed instruction;
  • needs cannot be met with modification of the regular environment.
